This is Mechtale! A game in which you'll be able to create a mech to pilot around completing whatever tasks your GM assigns you. The system uses d6 as its main dice, with the intention of making it possible for anyone to try it, even if you only have the most essential of dice. On top of that, you'll only need a place to write your character sheet down, so no need for printing either!

This game requires a minimum of 2 people (GM + 1 player) but can be played with a larger group.

If you're a beginner GM this game is simple enough to learn but still allows for character customization!


As of now, the game isn't complete, so it will receive updates from time to time. These updates will increment the price of the game, so getting it early means having all future updates be free! Every update will include access to all previous versions, so you can choose your favourite one to play, even if it doesn't have the latest features! It's okay to want a simpler game :) I encourage you to start playing an earlier version and slowly update until you get to the last in order to learn mechanics bit by bit<3

The update roadmap looks like this:

  • 1.0: Mechtale Demo (To which the screenshots belong!) ✔️
  • 1.1: New Gimmicks and Faults (21 new Gimmicks and 18 Faults to make your mech more unique!) ✔️
  • 1.2: Status effects (Explanations of how status like being prone or overheated work!) ✔️
  • 1.3: Pilot playbooks (Making your characters more interesting and distinct!) ✔️
  • 1.4: Mech type descriptors (Give your mech a unique appearance with three random generators to get inspired by!) ✔️
  • 1.5: Combat encounters (A guide for GMs with the intention of creating fair and interesting fights!)✔️
  • 1.6: Combat rules (Better organizing combat with rule sets for rounds and turns!) ✔️
  • 1.7: Swarm combat rules (Fight grand battles controlling multiple mechs!) ✔️
  • 1.8: Improvised warfare tactics (Help for GMs when calculating and allowing improvised attacks!) ✔️
  • 1.9: Mech cores (Giving your mech new mech-anics (ba-dum tsss)) ✔️
  • 1.10: Flavour worlds (Settings you can use for your adventures and some ideas of what those adventures might be!)
  • 1.11: Famous mechs (Premade mechs that can be used in any setting!)

I'm loving all of these updates so far--keep up the awesome work!

Oh, btw, you should totally consider entering this into this month's Eternal TTRPG Jam!  I think the theme is perfect for this project!

Question: what's the estimated release date for 1.10?  I may or may not be considering running this game in the Eternal TTRPG Jam server next month. :3c

Turns out writing an entire update in 10h wasn't as easy as I thought 💀 but I'll try to have it ready as soon as I can!!!

I have playtested and played this system twice already in two one-shots, and it's just so simple and so easy. Both for the GM and the player. 

That simplicity naturally makes it heavy in narrative, but with a good GM (which I have), it's just awesome. 

Day 10 of trying to convince my GM of making a campaign out of it...

Thank you for your playtesting! Any input regarding how the system works at the moment is greatly appreciated. I'm glad to hear the simplicity is not a problem, for I wanted to focus on it so that Mechtale can be a system you can pick up without much experience :D
